DISASTER
RECOVERY SERVICES
Technical Assistance for
FEMA
Once
a disaster strikes, the recovery process can be
long, labor intensive, and quite exhausting.
When the disaster is unprecedented, such as
Hurricane Katrina, FEMA will often subcontract
specialized work for private firms to complete,
such as professional planning, historic
preservation, and/or mitigation assistance.
By working with the federal, state, and local
governments, Studio S27 has gained an extensive
knowledge of the FEMA process and policies. Our
understanding of the FEMA policies and the
recovery process allows us to provide
exceptional recovery assistance to handle the
increased paperwork, project oversight, and
construction inspection requirements.
Our Studio has experience working with FEMA on
their Public Assistance, Long-Term Community
Recovery, and Hazard Mitigation Programs.
Furthermore, as part of its historic
preservation activities, Studio S27 has the
knowledge and resources to complete a wide array
of Section 106,
4(f), and NEPA Compliance Reviews on any
federally declared disaster. Studio S27 meets or
exceeds the Professional Qualifications Standards
set forth in the Secretary of the Interior’s
Guidelines for Architectural History.
Mitigation Work
Mitigation
focuses on breaking the repeating cycle of
disaster damage,
reconstruction, disaster damage, etc. When it
comes to disaster
recovery, mitigation plays a very strong role
during the planning and rebuilding of
structures. Working with property owners, Studio
S27 can recommend mitigation measures such as
elevating properties, installing operable window
shutters, and reconstructing roofs to
make the properties safer and stronger in time
for the next weather event.
Studio S27 also provides
general contracting services for most mitigation
measures.
