FEATURED
PROJECTS
At
Studio S27,
we work on a large variety of projects that can
range from extremely extensive and detailed to
creative accents to an architectural design such as
a bridge or skyscraper. Either way, you can trust
our experience and appreciate the results. Below, you
will find a small sample of some of our work.
Currently,
Studio S27 has been assisting the State of Louisiana
in integrating historic preservation considerations
into the development and review of projects proposed
for FEMA funding in response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Project:
Architecture Surveys (Section 106) &
Environmental Reviews for Pre-Construction
Planning
Client:
James Lee Witt; Union Parish
In 2007, a new
federal grant program was established to
assist local governments with construction
project identification and development for
reducing vulnerability to natural disasters.
James Lee Witt was contracted by Union
Parish in Louisiana to assist with the
pre-construction planning phase for these
projects. As a sub-contactor, Studio S27
provided the necessary architecture survey
and environmental review work on all of the
proposed improvements. This enabled Union
Parish to prioritize their construction
projects not only in terms of
cost-effectiveness, but also in terms of
preserving the integrity of the community’s
architectural features, and the stability of
local and site-specific environmental
quality.
Project:
Technical Assistance Recovery Efforts for Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita, State of Louisiana
Client:
James Lee Witt; State of Louisiana
In response to
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Studio S27 has been
retained by James Lee Witt & Associates to provide
technical assistance on historic preservation to
FEMA. Vital to FEMA’s mission is the ability to
protect and restore Louisiana’s rich and celebrated
architectural diversity. Studio S27’s proprietary
“historical review protocols” give the State of
Louisiana a distinct advantage in its rebuilding
programs in terms of integrating historic
preservation considerations into the development and
review of sited projects.
Project: Reconstruction of Patrick Bonck’s House; Gulfport,
MS
Client: Patrick Bonck
On August 29th, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into
the Mississippi Gulf Coast, leveling everything in
its path along the 70-mile coast. Studio S27 was
retained by Patrick Bonck, a homeowner on 2nd Street
in Gulfport, for assistance in rebuilding his house.
With nothing left but the frame and foundation, the
house originally consisted of architectural and
structural features from the early 1920s (original
construction date) with extensive remodeling
features from the 1970s. Studio S27 worked closely
with Mr. Bonck, and the decision was made to use the
disaster to create an opportunity to rebuild the
house to its original, charming 1920s cottage
design, while at the same time upgrading original
structural elements to strengthen the home to
withstand the impacts from Category 5 Hurricanes.
Studio S27 developed a pattern book with proposed
floor plans, mitigation measures, and a 1920’s
design template including interior and exterior
treatments for Mr. Bonck to draw from while
rebuilding his house.
Project:
Wine Labels; Branding of Stark County into Wine
Labels
Client:
Indian Creek Vineyard
Studio S27 was retained by Indian Creek
Vineyards to design up to six wine labels for
its 2005 bottling. The goal was to not only
design six labels, but to also capture local
attributes of Stark County into the wine labels.
To achieve this type of “local” branding, each
label married the vineyard to the Township by
drawing from such varied local emblems as school
mascots, recognizable scenic vistas, and
pastoral photos of the vineyard itself.
